Blog #1 for the Singleton Family

Because all of you seem to read Tony & Sharon's Travel Blog, Sharon thought it might be fun to do a Singleton Blog. Here everyone can share what is happening in your lives (past and present). Hopefully, we can get everyone to write in it from time to time. Sharing pictures could be fun also.

Sharon has been thinking about doing this blog ever since Tony and Sharon returned from UK. But...when Terry sent this newspaper article via email, it just seemed like the time to begin....to publish this picture as the first one on the Singleton Blog.

Always, when a picture is in a blog, you can click on it to increase the size of the picture.

This article was in "The Grantham Journal", Friday, July 28, 1978.

Tony, Terry, Jonathan, Neil, Tara, and Dawn will all be invited to participate in this blog. Of course, that means any and all spouses and partners are also welcome. If you want any other extended family members to be involved, we can add them also.

Newspaper articles and magazine articles are always welcome....just anything anyone wants to write about will be fun to read.

This blogger site is relatively user friendly. Pictures and videos are easy to download to this site. If anyone has any questions, please ask.

Hopefully, we will now keep the family closer by sharing events -- maybe we will be able to read about:
  • how the newlyweds are doing
  • how the bar business is coming along in Spain
  • a trip to Portugal
  • when another wedding will occur in the family
  • a trip to Daytona and Orlando
  • how life is for a "guinea pig" raiser
  • how the publishing business is in London

Here are few pictures for you to ponder. Two .pdf files are attached to your email from Kerri Lee Bailey (a California relative) to give you an idea of who the people in the pictures are.

Front Dennis Edwards, Middle Grandpa John and Grandma Emma Singleton, Back Ida (Stan's sister) and Grafton Edwards, taken in the 1920s

Grantham Town Band. Uncle Bill (Stan's brother), taken in the 1930s. I have put Bill's name on the picture - just double click to see where he is located.

Don't know why all these people are together, but have put names on John, Emma, and Stan Singleton, taken in the 1930s.

Date - 1937 - The hymn book that Tony used to learn to play the piano (Tony had one year of lessons - a year spent learning the right hand - he never finished the second year to learn what to do with the left hand). Hym book belonged to Stan Singleton. Notice that he was Secretary of the "Accordeon Bandits". Accordeon must be the olde spelling for accordian

OK, everyone, now it's your turn to contribute to this blog. There is more to come:
  • pictures of Tony, Terry, Jonathan, Neil, Tara, Dawn
  • pictures of Grandparents and long lost relatives
  • and many other surprises

  2. I remember that go-kart shot!! but probably not as well as the twenty two people I wiped out on my first chance to drive it with a trailer out back. I believe the locl village hall had to stump up £200 to replace all the squashed plastic chairs.

Some might say my driving has not improved since.

    Neil.

  4. Ay up
I can answer some of those questions.
Photo 1 Middle lady is Iris ( mothers sister)
Photo 2 Are you sure it's not Iris and Roland. If so, the photo would be about the 1910-1915.
Photo 3 This is Tara not long after we went to Malta in 19 72/73.
Photo 5 is Tara again in Malta having a clear up.

  5. so glad you liked the pics of me cleaning. Take note of the red plastic donkey Dawn- proof that it was mine first before it became yours. At least you couldn't write your name on that!
what is an url? an ancient title predating the Earl and obviously more important?
