This is a picture of our snow at our home last year while we were in Arizona. This is why we leavce to go south to become "snowbirds" every year since retirement. The snow was worse this year (record breaking) - dumping over eight inches of snow on Saturday before we decided to take off.We decided to leave on Sunday, 12/29, because it looked as if there was a break in the weather. We began by moving the motorhome out of the drive. Because it was so icy on the roads we thought it best to take it over to our nearby grocery store parking lot to load. This was accomplished with ease by 7 a.m. Then we hooked the car to the trailer to pull it out. That didn't go so well. With the ice on the drive and the 5 foot bank of snow.....it took us over four hours to simply get the trailer down to the parking lot where the motorhome was waiting.
After a couple of hours Sharon called son Dennis and grandson Casey to come by to help. Dennis and Tony decided the best thing to do was to slide the trailer on the ice away from the snow bank by pulling it. It's hard to describe what all we went through just getting out of the drive, and I wish I had been taking pictures to send along with this blog. However, I think if I had even dared bring out my camera, Tony might have snapped! His nerves were just a little on edge after our ordeal.
Lukily, we judged correctly. The drive was relatively easy with no snowfall, roads were wet but bare the first day. We sailed through the 1100 miles with no mechanical problems and arrived in Quartzsite on New Year's Eve in time to make chili for all our friends and have a New Year's Eve party in the motorhome.
This is what Tony was been doing almost daily for a week in Moscow, with some help from me.
